    ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR

    JOB DESCRIPTION



    Job Title: Program Coordinator

    Reports to: Program Director

    FSLA Status: Full Time Exempt

    Salary: $32,000


    Summary of Job Description:

    Under the direction and on-going supervision of the Program Director, the Adaptive Recreation Program Coordinatoris responsible for implementing and conducting the Adaptive Recreation program activities for Daring Adventures in a fun, safe and efficient manner. The Adaptive Recreation Program Coordinator will assist with the volunteer management program and assist with the respite and DTA (Day Treatment Adults) activities as needed.


    Distinguishing features: The Program Coordinator may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate program activities. Supervision is received from the Program Director, who reviews work through observation, satisfaction, participation and results achieved.


    General Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist with oversight and management of the contracted activity leaders, volunteers and respite providers.

    • Assure participants complete pre- and post-tests to measure program effectiveness.

    • Assist with equipment inventory, schedule of use, transportation, maintenance and repair/replacement .

    • Assist with special events and outreach.

    • Maintain good communication with Program Director, Contractors, Ability 360 staff and participants.

    • Assist with data compilation for reporting.

    • Assist with the creation and implementation program protocols and procedures .

    • Assist with participant orientation.

    • Actively promote activities to participants and potential participants .

    • Assist in preparation of event calendar for all DA programming (adaptive recreation, respite and DTA/group home recreation activities).

    • Prepare post activity reports for all programs conducted within 72 hours of activity.

    • Provide participant assessments, ongoing progress notes, and evaluations as needed.

    • Assist with volunteer program by recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluating all volunteers.

    • Plan and implement annual volunteer recognition event.

    • Conduct or oversee all Adaptive Recreation overnight and multi-day events.

    • Oversee registration of participants and maintain related records.

    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of adaptive recreation principles, theories and techniques.

    • Advanced knowledge of adaptive equipment in fitness, sports and recreation programs.

    • Ability to work cooperatively with others and create positive relationships with staff, volunteers and participants.

    • Knowledge of recreation program risk management.

    • Excellent public relations and customer service skills; verbal and written communication skills; planning, organizational, supervision and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to use independent judgment and initiative.

    • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ability to learn membership database software.

    • Ability to work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationships.


    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or related field and minimum of one year of progressive work experience in program leadership and supervision of recreation programs, including working with individuals that have a wide variety of abilities; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties. Related fitness or recreation certifications desirable.


    The incumbent must have a current First Aid and CPR certification, a current level 1 fingerprint clearance card, a clean driving record and valid Arizona driver’s license.


    Working Conditions:

    Pressure and stress of the position include dealing with crisis situations, meeting deadlines and supporting a wide variety of participant and volunteer needs. High level of responsibility including supervision of volunteers, interns, contractors and staff. This position has a fair amount of autonomy and must be able to make decisions on the spot.
