Dr. Leonardo J. Caraballo is a psychologist with the Phoenix VA Health Care System and works as part of an interprofessional team to serve Veterans with serious mental illness (SMI). He received his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from La Salle University (Philadelphia, PA) in 2013. Dr. Caraballo completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System with a focus in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery (PSR&R) and SMI. He is board certified in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. In addition to providing recovery-oriented services, Dr. Caraballo has an interest in PSR&R research, training, and dissemination. He also serves as a Regional Master Trainer for Social Skills Training (SST) within the VA system where he provides training and consultation to VA providers regarding the effective implementation of SST. 

 Learning Outcomes

  • Define social skills as they relate to Social Skills Training (SST) implementation.
  • Describe how Recreation Therapists can benefit from learning the recovery model and the recovery elements of SST.
  • Identify three training procedures in SST implementation and how Recreation Therapists can effectively utilize this skill in treatment planning.
